Leah Bertrand is an audiovisual artist and researcher working with ecosystems, computation, and digital ephemera. She performs live as Virga Delta, bringing the energy of live electronics to the immersion of soundscape composition. Her scientific research investigates the role of clouds in Earth’s climate.
From sonification of cloud radar and rhythms made from the self-organization of frog breeding choruses, to automated catalogs of pops and hisses from vintage stereo equipment, her work troubles the ends of science and technology in search of more-than-human sonic backwaters.
She holds degrees in electronic music and physics from Oberlin College and Conservatory, and she has performed at festivals around the US and in Norway. Her writing on music is published in the journal Organised Sound.
