Some examples of visual and audio experiments I’ve been coding up and enjoying. Email me if you’re interested in something and I’ll see if I can make the code presentable :)

 guilloche.pde

Parametric curves inspired by guilloche patterns used as watermarks. It starts with a typical polar curve to draw cardioids, spirals, etc. but translates along an axis as it draws (unlike a spirograph). The fun part is clipping the curves when they get too big and adding noise to the vertices.

wavelets.pde

Wavelet transform image glitching inspired by spectral transforms in audio. Converting an image into the wavelet spectral domain, applying transformers and thresholds, then flipping back to the pixel or image domain. Creates nice horizontal/vertical ringing artifacts. Adapted from an old GenerateMe sketch. Example is what once was half-life gameplay footage.

reanimator.pde

A poorly-implemented image convolution filter makes all sorts of weirdness happen. Typical image filters have clamps built in so channel values don’t overflow, concealing all sorts of interesting effects resembling cellular automata and thresholding. Source images from a 17th-century book about how to swim.

ascii_gif.pde

ASCII art but it uses cute unicode special characters with some noising instead of the regular punctuation mark charset. Very fun for gifs pulled from the geocities gif archive.
